Record Precipitation on US West Coast
The U.S. West Coast is experiencing record-breaking rain and snowfall, with more storms on the way later this week.
Moisture-laden air off the Pacific Coast brought heavy snow to mountainous areas, including three meters of snowfall at one ski resort in northeastern California.
Winter storm warnings and advisories are in effect for parts of several states, while some areas in southern California are under flood warnings after heavy rains.
There have been mudslides and flooding near Los Angeles. Rainfall totals were above five centimeters in the normally dry region, shattering decades-old records.
As the current storm system moves eastward, weather forecasters say more precipitation is expected to move into the area. Rain in southern California is expected to continue through Wednesday.
